ABOUT US

We exist because Canada deserves better journalism.

Not louder journalism. Not faster journalism. Not journalism that tells you what to think or whose side to take. Better journalism accurate, fair, independent, and written for the people who actually live this country every single day.

That is why Range Times exists.

Our Story

Canada is one of the most diverse, complex, and quietly fascinating countries on earth. From the housing crisis gripping Toronto and Vancouver to the immigration policies reshaping communities from Halifax to Calgary. From Parliament Hill debates that directly affect your paycheck to wildfire seasons that are rewriting what it means to live in the north. From the small business owner in Winnipeg trying to survive rising costs to the newcomer in Brampton navigating a system that was not built with them in mind.

These are not abstract issues. They are the daily reality of millions of Canadians.

And yet too much of Canadian media either talks above people or talks at them. Stories buried in jargon. Politics reduced to theatre. Issues covered in bursts and then abandoned. Entire communities ignored because their stories do not fit a particular narrative or demographic.

Range Times was built to be different.

We launched as part of Range Empire a global media and technology holding company with operations across multiple continents with a single, clear purpose: to cover Canada the way it deserves to be covered. In focus. In full. Without apology.

What We Cover

Canada is not one story. It is millions of them. Range Times covers the full breadth of Canadian life across ten core sections:

Parliament & Politics
Federal elections, provincial legislatures, municipal decisions, Indigenous affairs, and the political forces shaping the country. We cover power who holds it, who challenges it, and who it affects.

Immigration & Newcomers
Canada welcomes hundreds of thousands of newcomers every year. We cover IRCC updates, PR pathways, study and work permits, settlement challenges, and the lived experiences of people building new lives in this country. Because immigration is not just policy it is people.

Housing & Real Estate
The housing crisis is the defining domestic issue of our generation. We cover it without spin market data, policy failures, rental affordability, mortgage rates, and what real solutions might actually look like.

Business & Economy
From Bay Street to Main Street. The Bank of Canada, inflation, the TSX, trade tensions with the United States, Canadian startups, small business survival, and the economic forces shaping everyday life.

Health & Wellness
Canada’s healthcare system is both a source of national pride and genuine crisis. We cover doctor shortages, wait times, pharmacare debates, mental health, public health emergencies, and what Canadians need to know to take care of themselves and their families.

Climate & Environment
Wildfires, flooding, the carbon tax debate, Arctic sovereignty, clean energy transition, and the environmental decisions being made today that will define Canada for generations. We cover climate as the urgent, ongoing story it is.

Tech & Innovation
Canada’s technology sector is growing fast. AI, cybersecurity, Canadian startups, digital rights, social media regulation, and the intersection of technology and public life.

Life & Culture
Food, travel, education, sports, multicultural Canada, faith and community, and everything that makes this country worth writing about beyond the headlines.

Arts & Entertainment
Canadian music, film, television, literature, theatre, and the artists who reflect who we are back to ourselves. We believe culture coverage is not a luxury it is essential journalism.

World News
Canada does not exist in isolation. We cover international affairs through a Canadian lens with particular attention to our relationship with the United States, global trade, geopolitics, and the international issues that land on Canadian doorsteps.

How We Work

Independence First
Range Times operates with full editorial independence. Our journalism is not shaped by political parties, government funding conditions, advertiser pressure, or corporate agendas. What gets covered and how it gets covered is decided by our editorial team alone. That is not negotiable.

Accuracy Above Speed
We live in an era of instant publishing and constant breaking news. We choose accuracy over speed every time. We verify before we publish. We correct when we are wrong. We do not chase clicks at the expense of truth.

Plain English Always
Canadian news affects everyone not just policy experts and Bay Street analysts. We write for the person reading us on the subway in Vancouver, the parent reading us between school pickups in Ottawa, the newcomer in Scarborough trying to understand how this country works. If it cannot be explained clearly, it is not explained well.

Transparency and Trust
We tell you when content is sponsored. We tell you when we use AI tools in our workflow. We publish corrections prominently. We name our sources where we can and explain why we cannot when we must. Trust is not assumed it is earned, story by story.

Representing All of Canada
We are a national publication, which means we take seriously our responsibility to cover more than Toronto and Ottawa. Provincial politics matter. Rural communities matter. Indigenous voices matter. Newcomer experiences matter. Francophone Canada matters. We are building a newsroom that reflects the country we cover.

Our Commitment to Canadian Communities

Canada is home to some of the world’s most diverse communities and Range Times is built to serve all of them.

We are committed to covering Indigenous affairs with respect, depth, and a genuine effort to amplify Indigenous voices rather than simply report about Indigenous communities from the outside.

We are committed to covering the newcomer and immigrant experience with accuracy and humanity recognizing that immigration is not a political abstraction but the lived reality of millions of people who chose Canada and are building it every single day.

We are committed to covering every province and territory not just the major urban centres because Canadian stories do not begin and end in Toronto.

We are committed to covering French-speaking Canada, bilingualism, and Quebec with the seriousness and respect they deserve.

Our Relationship With Advertising

Range Times is free to read. We keep it that way by supporting our journalism through advertising, sponsored content, and newsletter partnerships. Every dollar we earn from advertising goes back into our journalism.

We are transparent about this relationship. Sponsored content is always clearly labelled. Advertisers do not influence our editorial decisions. If they try and sometimes they do we decline.

We believe independent journalism and commercial sustainability are not opposites. Done right, they make each other possible.

You can read more about how advertising works on our Site in our Ad Choices page.
